Liberty on TWiT.tv Millennial Edition with Leo Laporte! Episode #LoveThySelfie 541
#ThatTechGirl : A co-host on the first ever This Week in Tech: Millennial Edition!
In case you missed it!
I made my TWIT.TV debut!
I had the honor and privilege to talk tech with the original The Tech Guy, Leo Laporte!
Sitting along side Silicon Valleys finest, Alex Wilhelm of Tech Crunch and Lauren Hockenson from Nextweb. We talked professional drone selfies, hashtags, 50 cent (fiddy cent as Leo likes to call him), self driving cars, brogrammers with hoover boards, and some good ole patent infringement. Seriously, we need to decide once and for all who actually owns a circle?!
Alex Wilhelm, Lauren Hockenson, and I made up the First ever This Week in Tech: Millennial Edition!
And yes I live Tweeted, Snapped, and Selfied my way through a live TV and podcast broadcast. What can I say, it’s in my blood. Correction it IS my blood!
In the event you have been living in a hyper loop tube and never heard of the show, This Week in Tech is the most popular show on TWIT and recent named top twenty of tech podcast! That is a huge accomplishment! I am thrilled and honored that Leo Laporte personally offered me a seat at the Millennial Table!
Watch the “Great Hashtag Debate of 2015”
It turned into a heated GOP vs Dem debate. I am pro HASHTAG!
If you have your own hashtag I want to know about it! TWEET ME your hashtag ? Tweet me your hashtag!
ALSO BE SURE TO WATCH some behind the scenes footage of how I was almost trapped in Petaluma due to my Silicon Valleyness aka my bright idea to drive my electric car in the rain while low on battery power!! It is a nail biter!

A #LibertyLesson – State your mission and attract those who support it
A #LibertyLesson
When you build a brand you have to commit to your mission statement, vision, and purpose.
Every company, non profit, organization, person is driven by a mission. A common falsehood is “its business it not personal” or “we are a corporation we do not take a side”
Know who you are and attract people who support it.
You will loose people but you will gain a tribe.
For example, I will not venture into a contract with a company that kills/ tortures dogs (animals). I would not go into a sponsor deal with Maybeline or L’oreal.
I would opt to promote a brand who aligns with my goal and theme. I would do one with WETNWILD or Smashbox. The point is you can find a company that shares your vision and mission. You do not have to sell you soul.
Technology has given you the opportunity create the life you want!
State your mission and find those to compliment it.

It only makes sense everything is digital and with 5 Billion more people slated to get online, its a lot of work that needs to be done here on the inter-webs. More cats to see and eBooks to be sold!

Twitter DM TEAM+ #ThatTechGirl at Twitter HQ
Everyone knows I am a Twitter Stand! No for real. Many people pledge to their nations flag, I actually just salute the bird!
My love for Twitter started back in 2007. Yes I was a super early adopter! I still remember that one friend who gave me my first Twitter fix! I was hooked! I signed up in 2008 and my life changed FOREVER.
Everytime I give a tech talk be it at an event, college or at the BART. I represent Twitter…. HARD!
To give you an idea of my undying love for the brand, I actually held a pop up party for the Twitter IPO! Yes I am that girl.
My love runs deep!
So you can imagine my excitement to hang out with the Twitter DM team.
Yes the actual team who developed the DM feature on Twitter and launched GROUP DM worldwide with a flip of a switch! They actually were freaking awesome!
Oh now grab a seat it gets tech, very techie, in a moment.
The analytics and strategy of the DM:
The team had to collectively decide if person “A” could create a group chat with person “C” if if person “B” wants to join but blocked “C”! This is not an easy roll out this is weeks and weeks of white whiteboarding, strategy, and execution. Beyond execution they had to educate almost a Billion people on how to use the feature all while receiving instant feedback. I don’t know about you but I certainly dont want millions of instant tweets, beeps, and chirps flooding me at my job about my job!
Here is a short list of challenges they faced:
Who change name a Group chat?
Who can update the name?
How do we keep people safe?
How can we actively listen for blocks?
Who gets to delete the Tweet?
Is it deleted from everyones thread?
At what point of engagement can you view past thread messages?
It is not as simple as it appears folks!
Wow my mind was blown, this team needs a Crunchie! Maybe I will give them one!!
The highlight! I was able to test my new card with the team and they actually got it! Of course they got it! Many people don’t get it but I love it!
Do you get it?
So being invited the mothership and being called home was a very emotional and enlightening experience! Thank you
to the wonderful ladies who sponsored the Twitter Engineering team called @Womeng!
Meet a few folks from the team and feel free to follow them and let them know I sent you!

How to Take a Shower
A shower is one of the most relaxing forms of cleansing and rejuvenation on the planet. It clears energy, clears your mind, and allows you to be totally present. It is your alone time, your think tank,or as I like to call it, my non think tank.
You are alone with yourself. It is you, water, and the present moment. Embrace it.
Many inventors and famous entrepreneurs have come up with multimillion dollar ideas while in the shower. I like to call this a Power Shower. Yes I know you have never heard the term before,I get that. But think of it like this, you could be the next Power Shower Entrepreneur! I coined the phrase “Power Shower” to start you in the right direction.
There is an entire study dedicated to the science of why our best ideas come in the shower. Science often tries to catch up and explain realities of life and they are on the right track this time. It is odd for science to explain something that isn’t scientific but I think that they are trying. The experience of the present moment far exceeds our limited scientific explanation. But I’m glad they are attempting to engage and expand your thoughts.
Whether you are Jack Canfield or the guy who sold his million dollar idea to a toy company. You too can have a spark of genius while showering.
Make sure you do at least 3 of the 3 things listed and you could be next POWER SHOWER entrepreneur!
1. Take a shower
2. Shower alone
3. Relax
It is now up to you to ACT on your million dollar idea! Millions of people have ideas few act on them. Don’t be that guys who says “Man I can’t believe he made 100 million, I thought of that 5 years ago”.

5 Growth Hacking Job Tips for #Millennials
Growth Hacking Job Tips from #ThatTechGirl Liberty Madison
As, #ThatTechGirl, I have been to enough startup events, conferences, meetups, hackathons, and dev boot camps, to know one thing- Always present yourself in the most desirable light as possible,in every area of your life.
Funding a startup is 90% presenting an image of confidence and the “I’m moving forward without you,if you want on board hurry up”. That is how you have to approach job search. You are not begging or desperate. You possess a skill THEY need. You are in demand remember that!
This is a quick easy guide to get you thinking in the right direction.
From this point forward we will not call it a job search it is now “client match”.
You need to first decide what type of client you are looking to partner with to enhance your career.
Who will fit your needs and fulfill your talents and skill set?
Remember it is no longer an employers market, it is not even an employee market. It is a collaboration market.
By the year 2020 40% of the workforce will realize they are a startup and work as a separate entity. They will fill outsourcing needs, work as a consultant, or launch a startup. They will perform the same functions for a larger corporations but experience freedom.
Start now, control and run your life as a startup (which you should already be doing). You may not be the founder of you (your parents did that) but you are the CEO of you. So run it as such. Your time is valuable, it is seriously all you have so guard it.
This is your simple #startupLife guide to job searches.
1. STOP looking for a job
Looking for a job is so time consuming and to be honest who really wants another job?
I am confident if you are reading this you are a leader in your field or on your way to being one. The #startuplife is not for those looking for a job. It is for those looking to create opportunity and create their position. Stop spending hours upon hours sending out resumes online. Create a deck of your skill sets and start pitching
2. Work on your online presence not your resume
Many people do not really like to read. Yea I know. Let alone hundreds of resumes. We live in the information Age, it is at our fingertips. If you send me a resume first thing I am going to do is go to your linkedin profile to check you out. So skip all the resume stuff and be sure your linkedin is a narrative of your working history. Tell a story. Show personality.
Do NOT just copy and paste. Seriously there’s a science to linkedin, follow it. In addition to linked in be sure to position yourself as leader on Twitter. Depending on your industry you may want to brand on Pinterest, Tumblr, Facebook, Instagram. etc. Your digital presence IS your resume. You cannot apply to be Social Manager and only have 130 followers. It’s the same line as “Never trust a skinny chef”. It may not be true but it is the way the world thinks. If you are a little hesitant about such a public life, I suggest get over it. If you cannot get over I suggest creating two accounts for each platform. A private (used for you for friends etc) and a public. But you need a public profile.
3. Stop attending networking mixers
Stop attending mixers where everyone there is looking for jobs!
No one is hiring. You will have better luck attending topic specific events and meetups and offer your clearly defined service and or product.
4. Clearly define your skillset
To clearly define does NOT mean to limit yourself, it simply means define it and be able to clearly communicate it. Answer the question as though it is a mission statement not a job function.
What problem can you solve or what can you teach(products/education/knowledge).
Commerce works in two simple ways. What can you do for me and what can I do for you. You need to figure out what you can do to help the other person(company)and that my friend is your “job”
Realize the age of one profession is dead. The year of the “Doctor for Life”, ” Teacher for Life”, and “Accountant for Life” are long gone. There is no gold watch or corner office. There’s only you and your willingness to growth hack your way to a lifestyle where you are satisfied. I personally do not know anyone who ONLY does ONE thing. It could be the Silicon Valley in me but everyone does multiple things, it’s called being a visionary rather than goal oriented. Here in the Valley if you perform one function you are stopping your growth and limiting your options. I am sure other parts of the country may look at it as fickle but that is why they are at a 9-5 job and people in the valley are notorious for innovation and changing industries.
Tim Ferriss is an published author, blogger, growth hacker, radio host, chef, body builder, public speaker, investor, tech and startup enthusiast, and thought leader. Diversity builds wealth and a fulfilled life.
Create different decks and various resumes.
5. Present yourself as a startup or consultant not an out of work job seeker
Follow the previous steps and go forward! You are now a consultant/startup with a defined skill set so go and PITCH to companies who need you to solve their issues.

Before you launch your website
Many professionals over look simple things. Being perfect has nothing to do with experience its has everything to do with absolutely nothing. Perfect is a myth. However being better is achievable.
Many millennials and transitionals in the startup world often assume their peers and or competition have the upper hand. I don’t know why we tend to think EVERYONE else is superior but its simply untrue. We all have areas that we can improve on. I wanted to share an example.
My friend Nora Oravecz a Hungarian blogger in Silicon Valley for the summer is trying to improve her English skills so she decided to seek out a public speaking class. She suggested I join her so I can polish my skills and meet other speakers. I was super excited! I asked her to forward the link so I can begin my research. After more than 15 minutes on the site my excitement began to wane. I could not find anyone actually giving a talk.
A common mistake that I do not want others to make.
This is a speaking class with packages ranging from $50 to $550 and not one bit of footage of anyone actually speaking or giving a talk was listed on the website? The class is reliable, reputable, and a great investment. However that was not conveyed with this slight over sight.
I am a bit stunned.
How do you expect to sell your service or brand without showing what your service or brand is?
The founder was not speaking. The staff was not speaking. I honestly would have accepted a 30 second snippet of a student speaking!
I would have felt more incline to enroll and engage.
But no such luck. It was a bunch of words. Which would have been great for a wordpress class. But not ideal for a class selling the ability to become a better public speaker.
#ThatTechGirl #TechTip
When launching your startup place a sample/reel/demo/or preview of your product or service ON your site. You can do this by creating a video, animation, or offer a beta test experience. Remember
