Tech Word of The Day

image

#TechTuesday with #ThatTechGirl #WordoftheDay is #Algorithm
When said engineer wants you to stop asking questions. Used in a sentence “It’s a proprietary algorithm” #urbandictionary means “Stop asking me for my secret sauce can’t you see I’m trying to raise money and look super smart”!

When you hear this term, stop asking 😆😂:)☺😆

  • I am on a Panel called “The Future of Journalism in a Wikipedia World”

    image

I had the opportunity to sit in on a panel entitled
“The Future of Journalism in a Wikipedia World”
hosted by Pete Forsyth in conjunction with Hacks and Hackers Hacks and Hackers in San Francisco. I was thrilled to have the opportunity to sit on a panel with such dynamic leaders in reporting and journalism in Silicon Valley.

Andrew Lih, Associate Professor of Journalism, American University; author, The Wikipedia Revolution

Dan Cook, news reporter and editor (BusinessWeek, Knight-Ridder, American Lawyer Media, Newhouse); Associate, Wiki Strategies

Liberty Madison, founder at Digital PlayGround, StartupHouseOakland, Python Ear Code; an idea hacker & adviser, various tech startups.

Pete Forsyth, Wikipedia editor since 2006; founder, Wiki Strategies

We focused on a number of issues surrounding Wikipedia and how much we should rely on it to spread content as well as how much we reply on it to provide us with valid verified information. I was not brought in for my expertise on wiki edits, I personally do not edit wiki, I was the millennial voice on Wikipedia. As you can see in the video below millennials believe Wikipedia like Southerners believe the bible. There is no other truth. Many of us in look at Wiki as the Encyclopedia online instead of a crowd sourced content. Our entire lives we have had information at our fingertips. We you are 8, 12,or 15 and you have access to the internet you use Wiki on a daily basis. You have grown up on it. It is not perceived as a transition, it is a staple.

Wiki has improved its standards on who can edit and when an edit is allows which helps the platform remain unbiased.
The goal is to keep the neutral neutral and just report without insult to a living person. Lets not kill off a guy, change history, or become a cyber bully. What is written on Wikipedia is perceived as factual and perception is everything. Be careful out there!

Do you edit Wikipedia? Do you post your own content to expand your audience?
    I would love to know!

    See the outline below:

Wikipedia has many impacts on journalism, and offers lessons and opportunities to those in the profession. In this session — hosted at Nomiku (who will serve mouth-watering appetizers and cocktails, see below) and co-sponsored by Wiki Strategies — we will explore questions like:

    • Are journalism values present in Wikipedia’s policies and practices?

    • Do amateurs and dabblers act like journalists in their Wikipedia work? Should they?

    • Does Wikipedia threaten business models in journalism, or offer new business opportunities?

This participatory panel discussion will explore these questions and more.
Thank you Pete for moderating and producing this event!

    To watch the full chat:

Thank you to the Y Combinator-backed Nomiku for hosting the event. Nomiku is the first home sous vide immersion circulator and has brought high-tech manufacturing back to the bay area. Their team is made of fine dining experts, engineers, and a plasma physicist.

    A #LibertyLesson: Just DO IT

    A ‪#‎LibertyLesson‬
When I see people pass on opportunities, it makes me think of the amazing opportunities I have missed.
Then I realize we are all at different stages of “Being Ready” for the next level.
It all comes down to one thing and one thing only, you would think it would be skill, money, or time? It is none of those things it is about belief and confidence. If you do not think you can do it or are worth it, smart enough, fit enough, then you won’t. do it.
Everything starts as a thought, the physical action is a be product of your beliefs. You earn 5k a year because that’s what you think you can earn. You earn 50k because you think you can earn 50k and that’s what you are accustomed to doing.
You earn 500k because you know you can earn 500k a year, you earn 5,000,000 a year because zeros don’t effing scare you!
STOP BEING EFFING SCARED and just DO IT!
    JUST DO IT!

    My first Amazon Prime Experience

I see why we will one day never leave our homes.
Amazon needs to run for president! Effective, efficient, execution.
The 3E’s would be the platform.

This is my first time celebrating Amazon Prime Day with the rest of the world. I am over joyed!!
I am unsure if you are aware but I absolutely dislike shopping. …in person. It is a hassle, it takes a long time, it’s more expensive and it cost me money to even go shopping.
I don’t like trying on clothes.

To have a black car pull up and ask me if I was Liberty and hand me a package….very Amazon!

    Top Tech Companies for #WomeninTech

Many women are often unsure where to start when it comes to tech. They are unsure what to expect. Some never venture down a STEM path because they feel they will not be accepted. That is now a thing of the past! Take a look at these trailblazing tech companies who swing open their doors to welcome their female friends!

According to Anita Borg’s data, women account for about 23 percent of the workforce in tech. Only 18 percent of computer science degrees are earned by women, leaving them not only “underrepresented” but also causing them to leave “the industry at twice the rate as men due to the inhospitable tech environment.”

    How to Take a Shower

A shower is one of the most relaxing forms of cleansing and rejuvenation on the planet. It clears energy, clears your mind, and allows you to be totally present. It is your alone time, your think tank,or as I like to call it, my non think tank.

You are alone with yourself. It is you, water, and the present moment. Embrace it.

Many inventors and famous entrepreneurs have come up with multimillion dollar ideas while in the shower. I like to call this a Power Shower. Yes I know you have never heard the term before,I get that. But think of it like this, you could be the next Power Shower Entrepreneur! I coined the phrase “Power Shower” to start you in the right direction.

There is an entire study dedicated to the science of why our best ideas come in the shower. Science often tries to catch up and explain realities of life and they are on the right track this time. It is odd for science to explain something that isn’t scientific but I think that they are trying. The experience of the present moment far exceeds our limited scientific explanation. But I’m glad they are attempting to engage and expand your thoughts.

Whether you are Jack Canfield or the guy who sold his million dollar idea to a toy company. You too can have a spark of genius while showering.

Make sure you do at least 3 of the 3 things listed and you could be next POWER SHOWER entrepreneur!

    1. Take a shower
    2. Shower alone
    3. Relax

It is now up to you to ACT on your million dollar idea! Millions of people have ideas few act on them. Don’t be that guys who says “Man I can’t believe he made 100 million, I thought of that 5 years ago”.

    Liberty Madison Liberty Lesson

This is most likely the most valuable #LibertyLesson that I can share with you.
I know it’s hard and can be lonely but trust me if you know you can accomplish something then go for it!

Being an inventor or visionary can be lonely, mainly because people seem to be wired to only believe what they see. When you manifest it and build a product you will be met with a ton of supporters. Think of it as the stock market. Once you have a product and it is out there and doing great people are ready to hand over their fortune and life savings at your IPO, they just want to be involved. But until that point people honestly just may not believe enough in you or your product.

There is always a small demographic of folks who get extremely wealthy on new products. It is because they take risk and believe in a product. That’s it. Many will say it is because they have a disposable income and it’s a ‘rich get richer’ society but I don’t see it that way. To me they have a vision and are not counting pennies. Their vision is very simple. They want their money to work for them. They do not want to work for money. So they take risk many average joes just don’t take.

This point brings me back to you. Take the leap and believe in yourself. The leap is also very simple. You have to believe in yourself when no one else believes in you. If you do not believe in then you who will?

How to Take the first step to increase your confidence and cement an unshakable belief in yourself?

    The #LibertyLesson is
Surround yourself with partners not employees.

    Partners vs. Employees

Partners – listen, strategize, contribute, build you up, and most importantly ACT!
Employees – wait for you to take action, wait for you to give them direction, wait for you to give them more direction, and leave all of the heavy lifting to you.

As a result of surrounding yourself with employees you become a manager not a visionary.
Surround yourself with partners and leaders and you become an innovator.

Find your confident partners and believe!
